Cry Me A River

cry me a river
into your silver spoon
cry me a river
it’s all you seem to do.
cry me a river
are you down on your luck?
yes, yes, life is hard
welcome to the club.
life is full of setbacks
rocky roads and pain
one day, the sun is out
the next it’s pouring rain.
that’s just how it is,
and so it will remain.
do not let it break your heart
just take it day by day.
—
go n’ get that party dress.
i’ll throw on the suit
we can sing a happy song
and dance around the room.
some folks ain’t this lucky,
they have no roof or walls,
but smiling big and loving you
don’t cost nothing at all.

you don't get home quick and hold me tight
what kind of man works late on a saturday night?
i got all gussied up, but what for?
cause you don't bring me flowers anymore.
-
you don't bring me flowers anymore
you don't steal a kiss on the ole' dance floor.
we only go on dates to the hardware store
and you don't bring me flowers anymore.
-
better days surely came and went.
now we're just a' fussin' about the rent.
i used to have the blues, and you, my cure.
but you don't bring me flowers anymore.
-
late last night i peered into your dreams.
not a single one included me.
so finally, i'm walking out your door
cause you don't bring me flowers anymore.

Golden Burro
06:12
|
|||
i was hiding out in leadville, from the left side of my brain.
oldies on the radio, chuggin' flat champagne.
columbines and dandelions, one dog fight or two.
thanks for all the good times, colorado, i'll miss you.
the cafe had a bullhorn, spittin' rock n' roll on the road.
every curb all two feet high, built to handle snow.
columbines and dandelions, reach up to the sky
though i'm just a passin' through, they'll live here till they die.
-
golden burro, take my dollar bill.
hey hey hey mamacita can i get a light?
i'm rolling east of the great divide.
i may not be from leadville, but i live here tonight.
-
morning came to the mountains
we'd been sleeping in my car.
not much funny business, just making up names for stars.
on the tail of a rusty truck, i wrote my true intent.
and though i maybe had a little too much to drink,
this was all it said.
-
golden burro, take my dollar bill.
hey hey hey mamacita can i get a light?
i'm rolling east of the great divide.
i may not be from leadville, but i live here tonight.
-
now my voice is weathered, from the altitude, it seems.
here's to all the poetry, and playing in the streams.
columbines and dandelions, one dog fight or two.
thanks for all the good times, colorado, i'll miss you.
-
golden burro, take my dollar bill.
hey hey hey mamacita can i get a light?
i'm rolling east of the great divide.
i may not be from leadville, but i live here tonight.
