This song is a reflection on my sun-kissed childhood in Palo Alto, CA– mere feet away from the violence and poverty of East Palo Alto.

I remember writing this song, and being afraid to play it for people... I moved through the hesitation by reminding myself: if I'm not processing emotion via my music, and being vulnerable with listeners, then what am I doing, really? I have a note plastered to my guitar's DI for when I play concerts. It reads: "Show them your Soul." Well, here it is.

Gunshots every night are something you can get used to.
The bloods and crips in whiskey gulch, all had something to prove.
The 101 is howling with a diesel lullaby, the criminals I’ve come to fear
